Rewilding Glen Affric - Alan Watson Featherstone

Rewilding Glen Affric takes us on a long journey through one of the finest remnants of Scotland’s once-mighty Caledonian Forest. This landmark volume is replete with evocative words and stunning photographs of the trees and the great diversity of other wildlife that make the forest their home. From the delicate twinflower to the talismanic capercaillie, it presents an inspiring story of how ecological restoration is helping the forest to recover, expand and return to its full biological richness. Ecosystems worldwide are being destroyed faster than ever before and many species are at risk of extinction. While it is essential to stop further losses, it is also vital to restore degraded ecosystems to provide a viable future for both humanity and all other species. The work at Glen Affric provides a positive, powerful example of this. This book features fourteen key Principles of Rewilding developed by the author that are applicable to ecosystems everywhere. It also puts forward a more spiritual perspective, akin to that of many Indigenous peoples, illustrating how the power of human love and care can actively assist in the recovery and healing of Nature. Rewilding Glen Affric is for anyone who has a deep appreciation of trees and forests, and especially Scotland’s ancient Caledonian Forest. It is intended for people who are inspired by the work of rewilding and want to learn about the principles and techniques involved in the restoration of damaged ecosystems.
