Global Sex - Sine Plambech

'Where there is money, there will be sex.' Sine Plambech has dedicated her life to pursuing the trail of sex and money across the globe. As a young anthropologist, she interviews sex workers from Thailand and Nigeria in her Danish hometown. When she follows the treacherous migrant routes that led them to Europe, she finds families transformed by the money that absent mothers, daughters, wives and sisters send home. Over many years, Sine and the women at the heart of her research begin to talk as friends, sharing stories of risks taken and losses endured in search of a better future, and finding common ground in the experiences that connect us all. An engaging and nuanced storyteller, Plambech is unsparing in her analysis of the international sex trade yet compassionate in her treatment of the women who work in it. In Global Sex, it is these women who take centre stage, reminding us that behind every statistic, there is a human story.
