Lisbon Pocket Precincts - Donna Wheeler

A handy, pocket-sized guide to the best of Lisbon, plus daytrips further afield.Set over seven hills by the mighty Rio Tejo, Lisbon mixes 17th-century grandeur with an easygoing lifestyle, suburban food and wine venues, and a vibrant contemporary art and music scene. Skip the lines for Portuguese tarts, dodge the Tram 28 crowds and instead step inside this deeply historic and fast-booming city. Sip uma bicas (espresso) and share pataniscas (cod fritters) with the Lisboetas at neighborhood cafes and tascas, wander the pavements past exquisitely tiled facades, and party until dawn in dark fado dens, sun-kissed rooftop bars and pulsing dockside nightclubs. Lisbon Pocket Precincts is your curated guide to the city's best cultural, shopping, eating and drinking experiences, and its most accessible and budget-friendly choices. Each precinct takes in one or more of Lisbon's traditional districts with insider reviews of both outstanding attractions and hidden gems, as well as easy-to-use maps. A selection of field trips also encourages you to venture further afield, to the natural beauty of Sintra and Comporta, as well as the beautiful northern city of Porto. Slip this guide into your pocket and head off on your Lisbon adventure, experiencing all that this fascinating city has to offer.
