I Can Fix This - Kristina Kuzmič

Parents have all heard the saying, tiny people - tiny problems. Big people - bigger problems. But when Kristina Kuzmic started to see signs that her otherwise sunny, resilient teenage son was struggling, she felt sure that a few simple fixes would right the ship. Over the following months, the issues her family faced were more nuanced, complicated, and pervasive than she could've predicted. Not only that, the obligations, ideas, and unrealistic standards she'd unintentionally absorbed from parenting culture and social media made it impossible to ask for help, or even put into action the tools she'd been sure she'd deploy in a crisis. In this revealing and useful memoir Kristina debunks ten 'parenting truths' to show what actually helped for her family. While Kristina and and her son stand on the other side now stronger than ever, the story of their journey calls to parents who have felt the instinct to say 'I can fix this' in situations where love and compassion for their child far exceed their means to help them through the pain, addiction, and mental health strugggles. With an affirming and urgent foreword by renowned and New York Times bestselling clinician Dr. Shefali Tsabary, I Can Fix This is the relatable, quick read we need to see the parenting advice we rely on in action.
